Archibald William Roach is an Australian Aboriginal musician. He is a singer, songwriter and guitarist, as well as a native Australian rights activist. Roach's first solo album, Charcoal Lane, was released in 1990. It features the song "Took the Children Away," which was added to the National Sound and Film Archives of Sound Registry Australia in 2013. Also in 2013, he won the Death Prize for making a lifetime contribution in the healing of the Stolen generations as well as the Album of the Year. With Deadly winner Pat O'Shane, he called for an end to the Northern Territory intervention. Roach has toured the world, performing and opening shows for Joan Armatrading, Bob Dylan, Billy Bragg, Tracy Chapman, Suzanne Vega and Patti Smith. At the ARIA 2020 Music Awards on November 25, 2020, Roach was introduced to their Hall of Fame.
