William Jacob Cuppy ist ein amerikanischer Humor- und Literaturkritiker, der vor allem für seine satirischen Bücher über Natur und historische Persönlichkeiten bekannt ist. Lustige, aber realistische Zeitschriftenartikel zu schreiben, ist Cuppys wahres Talent. 1933 erzielte er mit einer NBC-Comedy-Talkshow mit der Schauspielerin und Gourmetköchin Jeanne Owen einen kurzen Erfolg, jedoch ohne Erfolg. Sein berühmtestes Werk, eine historische Satire mit dem Titel The Decline and Fall of the Real People, war nach seinem Tod unvollendet. Es wurde 1950 von seinem Freund Fred Feldkamp fertiggestellt und veröffentlicht, der fast 15.000 sorgfältig gestaltete Notizkarten durchsuchte, um das Buch zu drucken.
