Reid Scott war ein kanadischer Anwalt und Provinzrichter und von 1962 bis 1968 Mitglied der New Democratic Party of Congress für den Wahlbezirk Danforth, Toronto, und ließ die Bundespolitik auf der Straße. Zuvor war er von 1948 bis 1951 Mitglied des Commonwealth of Cooperation des Provinzparlaments für den Wahlkreis Beaches. 1969 kehrte er als Bürgermeister der Stadt Toronto in die Politik zurück. Scott, damals Jurastudent, besiegte den 22-jährigen Amtsinhaber Thomas Alexander Murphy, als er bei den Provinzwahlen 1948 als MPP für die Strände in die gesetzgebende Versammlung von Ontario gewählt wurde. Im Alter von 21 Jahren stellte er einen Rekord als jüngster jemals gewählter Kongressabgeordneter auf. Er blieb bis zur Wahl des 19-jährigen Sam Oosterhoff bei einer Nachwahl 2016 ununterbrochen. Scott kandidierte bei der Bundestagswahl 1962 und wurde zum NDP-Kandidaten für Danforth gewählt. Als Kongressabgeordneter spielte er eine Rolle in der "Great Flag Debate".
